Our San Diego guide to transportation offers all the information you need to help you arrive at our hotel from the airport and get around the area. Loews Coronado Bay is about a 20–25-minute drive from the San Diego International Airport. San Diego is a brief drive or a short 15-minute ferry ride from the hotel and we offer complimentary shuttle service to downtown Coronado. Enjoy guided tours of some of the best attractions the city has to offer, or venture out on your own for some unique exploring.
Our Coronado Bay Resort is just 20–25 minutes from the San Diego International Airport and the fee is approximately $45 each way (plus tip) when you travel by cab. (Please note: prices vary and are subject to change.) If you would like the hotel concierge to set up a private car service, please provide us with your flight itinerary and a driver will be waiting for you in baggage claim. For your convenience, our concierges can arrange a rental car and have it waiting for you at the hotel. A self-service Hertz kiosk is located in the lobby as well. Rental cars are also available at the airport.

Visit Coronado's mile-long main street, a pedestrian's paradise with dozens of shops, boutiques and restaurants. Loews Coronado Bay Resort provides complimentary shuttle service to downtown Coronado (drop-off point is the Coronado Historical Museum). The shuttle operates from 9 AM to 9 PM and leaves the hotel every hour on the hour, based on availability. Reservations are required as seating is limited. Take a nostalgic 15-minute ride across the bay to Broadway Pier and the Convention Center in downtown San Diego. The ferry departs from Coronado Ferry Landing, a waterfront marketplace that’s home to more than 25 unique shops and restaurants. Tickets are $4.25 one way or $8.50 round-trip (no charge for bicycles). Children 3 and under can ride for free. Hotel guests are invited to join a State Park Environmental Educator for a fun and interactive tour of the Silver Strand State Beach’s rare plants, animals and birds. During this one-hour walking tour, we’ll look for animals and plants in various habitats of the state beach. We’ll use binoculars and hand lenses to aid in our discovery. Meet outside lifeguard headquarters; look for the tall tower on the ocean side of the highway.

Discover plants, animals, mud flats, and more on this one-hour walking tour. You can also help preservation efforts by participating in an optional volunteer activity such as a beach cleanup. Kids aged 7 to 12 are invited to these outdoor activities, which include walks, presentations, games, investigations, art and more. Kids can earn awards such as pins, posters, and patches as they progress through the activities. Parent/Guardian must fill out a sign-up form for their children and remain in the park while their kids participate. Old Town Trolley Tours provides sightseeing tours highlighting the best San Diego attractions. Hop aboard one of their trolleys and you’ll experience “transportainment,” a delightful combination of transportation and entertainment. With Old Town Trolley, you can avoid costly parking and city driving while exploring at your own pace as you hop on and off at your favorite stops. Guests can board the trolley at Mc P’s Irish Pub & Grill (1107 Orange Ave between C and B Avenues). Tickets are $36 for adults, $18 for children ages 4–12, free for kids 3 and under. Visitors to the USS Midway Museum enter a floating city at sea and walk in the footsteps of 225,000 Midway sailors who served our country and upheld the American ideals of strength, freedom and peace. Guests can spend the day exploring more than 60 exhibits with a collection of 25 restored aircraft. A self-guided audio tour brings the carrier's history to life. Those who dare can "take to the sky" aboard one of three flight simulators.

From December to April, the majestic California gray whales make their annual migration from the Arctic waters to the warm lagoons in the Gulf of California for breeding. These peaceful giants of the sea come within miles of San Diego’s coastline and can be viewed on daily whale watching excursions and from Cabrillo National Monument on Point Loma.
