Bars and hotels are welcoming and bracing for the crowds expected today and tonight as Nashville hosts the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl and its downtown New Year’s Eve celebration.
“When I walked in today, I knew it was happening,” said Julie Rahimi, manager of Robert’s Western World. “There were lot more bottle caps on the ground. It’ll be great.”
Rahimi said the timing of Monday night New Year’s Eve has contributed to a strong weekend as many visitors have made a long weekend out of the holiday.
Restaurants also expect to benefit from the extra weekend night. Greg Hilbourn, general manager at Germantown Cafe, said his restaurant is booked tonight. New Year’s Eve typically yields the same revenue as a busy Friday or Saturday night and could generate two or three times the sales of a typical Monday, he said.
“We always look forward to it,” Hilbourn said.
Tom Negri, managing director at Loews Vanderbilt, said the hotel sold out Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday nights.
“It’s not only a big weekend — you have a big bowl game — it’s the year end and the beginning of a new year,” he said. “There isn’t a hotel that doesn’t have partiers in town.”
