Catch a Game at Staples Center

With pro baseball, basketball and hockey, and several major colleges, LA is a sports fan’s paradise. Stay at our hotel near Staples Center and sit courtside at a Lakers game with the likes of Jack Nicholson and Denzel Washington, grab a Dodger Dog and settle in for an afternoon of baseball, or visit UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion, one of America’s greatest basketball venues.

PROFESSIONAL SPORTS

Los Angeles Lakers (NBA) – Staples Center
The most storied franchise in the NBA always seems to field an entertaining team. From past greats like Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to recent stars Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant, the Lake Show never disappoints. Be sure to scan the crowd for stars – the best and brightest of LA tend to congregate courtside during Lakers’ games.

Los Angeles Clippers (NBA) – Staples Center
For years, the Clippers have been considered the little brother of the dominant Lakers. But the franchise has transformed itself in recent years and emerged as a relevant contender in the Western Conference. Blake Griffin’s high-octane dunks alone are reason enough to stop by Staples Center for a Clips contest.

Los Angeles Dodgers (MLB) – Dodger Stadium
When the Dodgers migrated across the country from Brooklyn in the 1950s, the team brought a rich backstory along, and it has made plenty more history in the past half-century. The Dodgers’ iconic white and blue uniforms, wild success in the 1960s and legendary play-by-play man Vin Scully have solidified the franchise as one of the major leagues’ best. Dodger Stadium, located in Chavez Ravine just outside Downtown LA, provides a classic baseball-watching experience.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim (MLB) – Angel Stadium of Anaheim
The Angels are the Dodgers’ younger sister team to the south. The perennial American League West contenders play their games in Anaheim, where they have enjoyed substantial success in recent years. The Angels boast a lively gameday atmosphere, featuring the Rally Monkey mascot and solid fan support.

Anaheim Ducks (NHL) – Honda Center
The hockey franchise originally founded by Disney is no laughing matter. The Ducks took home the Stanley Cup in 2007 under the leadership of all-time greats Scott Niedermayer, Chris Pronger and Teemu Selanne. The team plays its games at the Honda Center in Anaheim, just south of LA.

Los Angeles Kings (NHL) – Staples Center
Los Angeles proper also boasts a successful hockey team. The Kings, who date back to 1967, enjoyed relevance in the 1980s and early 1990s before falling into an extended stretch of mediocrity in the past decade. Luckily for LA, the Kings are back: They won the Stanley Cup in 2012.

Chivas USA (MLS) – The Home Depot Center
The younger of SoCal’s two professional soccer clubs, Chivas USA has competed in MLS play since 2004. Chivas’ most successful season so far came in 2007, when Maykel Galindo led the squad to a 15-7-8 record and a first-place finish in the MLS West Division.

Los Angeles Galaxy (MLS) – The Home Depot Center
The Galaxy is the highest-profile team in MLS, thanks to the club’s consistent success and its banner signing of British soccer star David Beckham in 2007. Beckham has boosted soccer’s popularity in LA and across the nation, while leading the team to three consecutive first-place finishes in the West Division.

COLLEGE SPORTS

Los Angeles is home to a large number of schools with Division I collegiate athletics, including several with successful men’s basketball and football programs. UCLA is one of the true blue-bloods of college basketball, while USC fields a winning football team almost every year. The Rose Bowl is held in nearby Pasadena each January, along with the world-famous Rose Parade.
