Events at Loews Ventana Canyon - Tucson
UA Steward Observatory Mirror Lab offers a unique opportunity to experience and learn how this facility melds cutting-edge scientific research with innovative manufacturing techniques that are changing the way we explore the Universe! This tour provides a behind-the scenes look at unparalleled optical technology, revolutionary spin-casting, mod construction, grinding and polishing involved making giant telescope mirrors (8.4 meters or 27.6 feet in diameter). This new generation of giant optical telescopes will probe the remote limits of outer space, producing images never before seen with such power and clarity. They will allow astronomers to explore the edges of the universe in an effort to answer a vast array of astronomical questions and make new discoveries.
