Events at Loews Atlanta Hotel
This summer the High Museum of Art will unveil an ambitious design intervention on the Sifly Piazza entitled Mi Casa, Your Casa, created by contemporary Mexican designers-in-residence Héctor Esrawe and Ignacio Cadena (two of the leading designers in Mexico today). Mi Casa, Your Casa is a site-specific work that will invite the community to actively participate in the life of our entire Woodruff Arts Center campus through recreation, social interaction, performances, and art-making activities.
Mi Casa, Your Casa uses a basic, recognizable form – the home – as metaphor for the project. Esrawe & Cadena have designed a three-dimensional, open frame of a house (roughly 8 x 8 x 10.5 feet) to serve as a blank canvas. More than 35 will be installed around the campus as part of the dynamic project. Swings, easels, bins of chalk, buckets of bubble water, etc will be on hand to encourage visitors to enjoy and engage with these environments.
The Museum plans to develop collaborative performances created by groups across the Atlanta arts spectrum, including the High's colleagues at the Alliance Theatre, Atlanta Symphony, and Arts for Learning. These highly unique and original collaborations will allow visitors to experience some of Atlanta's most compelling artists in exciting new combinations, exploring new territory, and branching out in fresh and unexpected directions to bring the Piazza to life with art.
This summer's pilot project is part of a two-year initiative to activate the Piazza and engage the community in the vibrant campus of the Woodruff Arts Center. Esrawe and Cadena will design a second intervention for the Piazza for the summer of 2015, which will be inspired by the public's interaction with this year's project.
