Chicagoland Fall Fun with the Family

October in Chicago has historically been known for the swift change in weather, the turning of the leaves and of course all things spooky for Halloween. But there is more than meets the eye when it comes to autumn activities in the Chicagoland and surrounding areas. One of the best things about the Rosemont area is that when you stay at the Loews Chicago O’Hare you’re a 30-minute drive from the best things to see and do in the city, and this of course includes some of the largest corn mazes and pumpkin patches in the state.

Here are my top suburban picks for the fall-lover in us all.

A Group Of People In A City

For the whole family

The many public parks of the Chicago Park District have been a go-to for generations. And their monthly activities and family programming have grown in leaps and bounds, with a plethora of activities to keep the kiddos entertained year-round. This October, be sure to check out one of their family-friendly spook-tacular parties at Halloween in the Parks. From indoor movie nights to haunted houses and pumpkin patches, there is a fall-themed activity every day of the month.

The UniverSoul Circus is a fairly new yet well-thought-out and entertaining night under the big top. Forget the childhood circuses you remember (the ones with the lions riding tricycles, or elephants walking a balance beam) — this is a circus for the people. From the Technicolor costumes to the skillful acrobats and dancers, you can expect a truly visual experience the kids, plus mom and dad will love.

Prost!

It wouldn’t be fall without a traditional German-style Octoberfest, and there are several planned throughout the city and surrounding suburbs where you can nosh on traditional German fare and prost to a fun evening.

Insider Tip: If you’re not looking to travel far to celebrate this German tradition, you’re in luck. One of the best places for all things German is just steps from your guestroom door over at Hofbrahaus, in Parkway Bank Park.

Halloween and All Things Pumpkin

From fright fests to fun in the pumpkin patch, you’re in the right spot to enjoy an all-hollows-evening at one of these area festivals.

Come and get a little spooked — and enjoy playing in the crisp Autumn air this October!
