Whether you prefer a cold beer, a tart cider, or a craft cocktail, there is no shortage of top-notch Minneapolis breweries and distilleries to visit. The craft beer and distillery scene has exploded in the Twin Cities and throughout Minnesota in recent years, and our team has been drinking our way around the city to be your experts on what to drink now. While it’s hard to narrow it down to just a few, we managed to pick our top three favorites that we feel are must-sip stops while visiting Minneapolis.

Fulton Brewing Company

One of the first local breweries in the Twin Cities, Fulton Brewing Company, was started by a couple of friends who turned home brewing as a hobby into a two-brewery and a taproom full-time business. Fulton opened Minneapolis’s first official taproom in March of 2012 after the city passed the Surly Bill into law in 201, allowing breweries to serve their beer in pints on-site. The taproom is just steps from Target Field – and from Loews Minneapolis Hotel. Our favorite beers include Lonely Blonde, an American Blonde Ale; Sweet Child of Vine, an India Pale Ale; and War and Peace, an Imperial Coffee Stout.

Sociable Cider Werks

If you prefer cider to beer, or just want a crisp, refreshing beverage, then head to Sociable Cider Werks. As the first cider house in Minneapolis, Sociable proves that there is so much more to cider than just an alcoholic take on apple juice. A good cider is made from a blend of sweet apples, sharp apples, and bitter apples. Since bitter apples are really only good for making ciders, they are extremely hard to find in the Midwest in the volume needed for cider houses. Sociable, instead, turned to hops and grains to add bitterness and body to their drinks. The result is a cider that is crisp, dry, and well-balanced. Whether you are a cider lover or are undecided, Sociable is worth a stop for a sip – and to meet locals. The taproom is in the Northeast neighborhood of Minneapolis and is worth a visit. Try the Freewheeler, Rusty Chain, or Spoke Wrench – a stout cider hybrid.

Tattersall Distilling

Located just around the corner from Sociable Cider Werks, Tattersall Distilling is definitely a must-sip stop when visiting Minneapolis. Tattersall has won numerous accolades and awards (51 awards and counting!) locally and nationally, and for good reason. With a variety of spirits including gin, vodka, whiskey, bourbon, aquavit, amaro, fernet, and a slew of liqueurs, there is really a spirit for everyone. Tours are available on Saturdays for those wanting to learn more about the process used for Tattersall’s award-winning spirits. Be sure to stop by the Cocktail Room for a drink or two. The Corpse Reviver #2, made with Tattersall Gin, Tattersall Orange Crema, Tattersall Americano, lemon juice, and two dashes of Tattersall Absinthe Blanche, packs a punch. For something a bit lighter, try a Cranberry Cider made with Tattersall Cranberry and Sociable Freewheeler Dry Cider. It’s crisp, refreshing, and perfect for fall!
