Top 10 Things We Love About Tucson

Oh Tucson, how do we love thee? Let us count the ways. Here are just a few of some of our favorite reasons to fall in love with Tucson and the desert we call home at Loews Ventana Canyon Resort.

Sonoran Hot Dogs

Sonoran Hot Dogs

Ask anyone who knows me well and they'll tell you my absolute favorite thing about Tucson is the Sonoran Hot Dog. Hands down. Why? Simple; it's such a unique and unforgettable take on an American classic! Wrapped in bacon in a beyond buttery and fluffy bollio bun, topped with pinto beans, grilled onion, tomatoes, mustard and mayo. Trust me when I tell you it's definitely worth the hype!

Monsoon Storms

Sure, you've heard about the mysterious desert storms that roll in late in the summer afternoons. But until you've witnessed one firsthand you'll never truly know the sheer excitement they bring! Locals wait all year for this beloved weather season when these insanely strong and beautiful storms light up our sky. Just make sure to find a good spot indoor to enjoy the show; you don't want to be caught outside during one of these bad boys.

Eegee's

Eegee's

Specializing in sub sandwiches (and awesome french fries), Eegee's is an extremely popular chain restaurant only found in Tucson. Ask any Tucson-an and they'll tell you why... the eegee; a frozen fruit drink. They have a small menu of standard flavors like lemon and strawberry, but their rotating "Flavor of the Month" is the way to go.

Sabino Canyon Stop 8

Sabino Canyon

Located literally just up the road from Loews Ventana Canyon Resort, Sabino Canyon is the go-to location recreational area for locals and tourists alike. Ride the tram up for a narrated ride to the end and enjoy a scenic walk back complete with several stops with picnic areas and even water at stop #8!

Poolside Prickly Pear Margarita

Prickly Pear Margarita

A true Tucson specialty and the eye-catching magenta pink drink you're bound to see everywhere you go. Harvested right on our very own resort grounds, the prickly pear fruit is a staple flavor throughout town! Need we say more?

Mt. Lemmon

Looking for a break from the heat and a fun day trip? Mt. Lemmon is the place locals escape to when the weather heats up. Located over 9,100 feet in elevation, the drive up via Mt. Lemmon Scenic Byway is worth the visit alone, with sprawling views of the city below. But once you arrive up top you'll be greeted by a charming, tiny town called Summer Haven covered in pine trees and featuring a significant dip in the temperature. No trip up the mountain is complete without a visit to the iconic Cookie Cabin for pizza and a cookie.

Stargazing

Did you know that Tucson is one of the best places in North America for stargazing? Our dry atmospheric weather provides some of the clearest skies to observe the great unknown. Add on the sheer desert darkness that falls over the resort once the sun goes down and it's a stargazer's paradise! We offer complimentary bi-weekly stargazing sessions with a professional astronomer for guests of Loews Ventana Canyon Resort.

Raspado

Raspado

Another fun local treat is a raspado, which is the equivalent of a Mexican sno-cone. Its name is derived from the Spanish word "raspar" (meaning to scrape) and it's a refreshing local drink made of fresh fruit and ice. Ask any local and they'll be sure to tell you that the best way to enjoy a raspado is with a scoop of cold vanilla ice cream! The cream melts in with the chunks of fresh fruit and will put a smile on anyone's face.

Perfect Pool Weather

Although the weather may get quite warm during the summer months, the payoff in return is that we're blessed with nearly year-round sunny weather. More sunny days = more time by the pool. Enough said!

Mountainside Views

Picturesque Mountain Views

Being nestled into the Catalina Mountains has its perks and all you have to do is look out your window at the resort to see why! A photo can hardly capture the true beauty the desert mountains offer. They also provide a serene and relaxing experience for all who visit. Just be sure to keep an eye where you're walking, as these desert views also come along with a local critter or two.
