The Ultimate Southern Road Trip | Loews Hotels Blog

Thinking of hitting the road this summer? Well, you’re not alone! Low gas prices have 55 percent of Americans hitting the road this summer. We consulted with three local influencers in Atlanta, Nashville and New Orleans to share their must-sees in each destination to help you plan your own Ultimate Southern Road Trip.

First Stop: NASHVILLE

Our first stop takes us to Nashville, Tennessee! Known for its world-class music, booming culinary scene and Southern hospitality, Nashville has exploded in recent years as one of the top destinations in the country. We asked local trendsetter and fashion correspondent Caroline Acree of Caroline Margaret Studio for her must-stop spots in the city.

Eat: For an authentic culinary experience that your palette is sure to enjoy, Caroline recommends checking out Mason’s, Le Sel and Chauhan Ale & Masala House.

Play: “The Honky-Tonk Highway” of Lower Broadway is always a must, but for more of a “uniquely Nashville” experience, Caroline recommends touring Cheekwood Art Museum & Botanical Gardens, Jackalope Brewing Company and Olive & Sinclair Chocolate Company (Hint: you don’t need a golden ticket to enjoy this chocolate factory!)

Chill: For some needed R&R, Caroline recommends a glass of champagne and Swedish massage at Adagio Massage Co & Spa. Who wouldn’t toast to that?

Second Stop: ATLANTA

After all of that honky tonkin’, get ready to explore one of the fastest growing destinations in the country. We leaned on local expert Caroline Eubanks of Caroline in the City to share favorite spots in Atlanta’s Midtown neighborhood.

Eat: If ham is your jam, dine at Saltwood for house-made charcuterie and local cheeses. Caroline also suggests ParishO-Ku, Miller Union or Cooks & Soldiers. For brunch, check out Bantam & Biddy, Empire State South or Highland Bakery.

Play: Explore ATL on the BeltLine Eastside Trail, which passes Piedmont Park, Atlanta Botanical Gardens and Ponce City Market (which has a free bike valet), along with dozens more restaurants. If sipping a cold beer is more your speed, Caroline recommends enjoying local brews at Second Self, Red Brick, Orpheus, or Monday Night.

Chill: Head up to Loews Atlanta’s 7th floor for exhale spa and find your “om” in downward facing dog, on a massage table or inside the detoxifying coed hammam (similar to a Turkish bath).

We have only scratched the surface on Caroline’s full agenda in Atlanta. To read more about her favorite spots in the ATL, out her blog at Caroline in the City.

Final Stop: NEW ORLEANS

Coming to your last but not your least destination, you’ll find yourself immersed in the colorful character and vibrancy of the Big Easy. Scott Simon, a NOLA native whose heartbeat matches the rhythm of the city, shares his passion about New Orleans cuisine as well as the music and art scene.

Eat: Scott starts his recommendations with a Fried Peanut & Jelly Sandwich at Belle’s Diner. Burgers at Capdeville are another favorite, while Sweet Potato Beignets at Sobou, the famous in-house Shrimp & Tasso Corndogs at Cafe Adelaide, or a kickin’ Iced Coffee at Cafe EnVie are all stellar options.

Play: For guaranteed fun, Scott says to check out the Orpheum Theater for jazz legends and big-name performers that often roll through town or to explore SoFab (Southern Food & Beverage Museum) and drop into its eatery Purloo on your way out.

Chill: For a quieter afternoon, hop on the virtual train at the WWII Museum or stop by The Stacks book and magazine store just inside the Contemporary Art Center.
