Tucson

When summer arrives in Tucson, bringing the desert heat along with it, Loews Ventana Canyon Resort knows just the way to cool off escaping the triple digits.

Local Frozen Treats

As the summer heat rises, Tucson locals know just the way of cooling off with two of our favorite frozen treats. Travel through the Old Pueblo and you’re sure to notice one of our most popular local franchises, Eegees. A common delight for locals but visitors often ask, ‘What’s an Eegee?’ Think of a classic snow cone combined with a fruit smoothie. Each month they feature a “Flavor of the Month” featuring tastes like Dragon Berry, Lucky Lime, Orange Dream and Mango Tango. While this restaurant is also known for tasty sub sandwiches and crisp crinkle fries, it’s all about this cold frozen drink!

With temperatures rising into the triple digits Tucsonan’s don’t limit our selection of frozen treats to just one. Enter… the raspados. This local treat comes to us from south of the border taking shaved ice to a whole new, delicious, level! Any good taqueria in town will feature this refreshing treat making it the perfect summer snack. Start with traditional shaved ice, select your fresh fruit flavoring (usually homemade) and add sweetened condensed milk. But, if you really want to make this the ultimate summer treat, go for the scoop of vanilla ice cream! The sweet ice cream melts into the fruit flavored ice with bits of fresh fruit to excite all your senses.

Cold Plunge

It’s a given that the easiest and most accessible way to survive the summer months in Tucson is to hit the pool. The main pool at Loews Ventana Canyon Resort is nestled right up against the Catalina Mountains, making it a tranquil and relaxing place to take a dip. But if you really want to embrace a cold a refreshing splash make your way to the cold plunge. The brisk 60–70-degree pool is sure to give you the chill you’re looking for on a hot sunny summer day!

Mount Lemmon

Leave the desert heat and cacti below as you escape Tucson this summer heading up Mt. Lemmon. This 9,159-foot summit will transport you to another place and season as the cacti are replaced with pine trees and the triple digits turn into 75-degree days. Locals will travel the Scenic Byway to spend a day among the pines taking in the cooler weather and enjoying the beautiful change of scenery. After hiking through the Catalina Forest you won’t be disappointed with a stop at the Mt. Lemmon Cookie Cabin for a slice of pizza or a sweet homemade cookie topped with ice cream.
