Climate Change Adaptation
Better Building Challenge Achievers
In 2012, Loews Hotels committed to improving energy efficiency across the portfolio by at least 20% over 10 years. We achieved this mark at 24%.
50001 Ready Achievers
In 2021, Loews Hotels & Co enhanced its hotel energy management systems. Eleven properties pursued The Department of Energy’s (DOE) 50001 Ready program, joining a cohort led by VEIC, a 50001 Ready Partner.
With the help of the Cohort and DOE’s 50001 Ready Navigator tool, and the Loews Hotels team, the hotel brand received 50001 Ready recognition status for all 11 properties that participated in the program. Learn more about the 50001 Ready Program.

Responsible Sourcing
Loews Hotels & Co understands the importance of sourcing locally and supports further advancements in agricultural crops, seafood, animal proteins, plastic alternatives, and paper products through its supply chain.
Loews Hotels & Co’s commitment to sustainability and the environment extends to its suppliers. Working with local farmers, the company looks for certified naturally grown and organic products. We source protein products for restaurants that are all natural—with no antibiotics or steroids—from suppliers that are certified as humane. Loews Hotels was one of the first hospitality companies to use cage-free eggs as a brand. Also, guest room amenity suppliers for shampoo, conditioner, lotions, and soaps are required to package products in recyclable tubes, and the products are natural and not tested on animals.
At Loews Hotels & Co we are committed to culinary excellence from hiring talent to sourcing products to menu concepting. We take sustainability and bio-dynamics seriously and incorporate them into the entire food and beverage experience across the brand.
Waste and Recycling
Food Waste Reduction
According to the United Nations, an estimated 19% of total global food production goes to waste, of which 28% comes from the food service industry. Estimates suggest that 8–10% of global greenhouse gas emissions are associated with food that is not consumed.
We at Loews Hotels are happy to partner with Goodr, a sustainable food waste management company that uses logistics and technology to fight hunger and climate change. Goodr utilizes apps and logistics networks, such as Uber Eats, to pick up excess and expiring food items from hotels and restaurants and donate them to local nonprofit organizations.
Large Format Bottles (Plastic Reduction)
Over the past few years, our efforts concentrated on minimizing single-use items through various initiatives within hotels and in collaboration with local suppliers. Loews Hotels & Co has committed that all of our hotels will be free of miniature toiletries by the end of 2025.
Clean the World
Guests will find that hotels are transitioning to full-size amenities, which will greatly reduce plastic waste. And as hotels make this transition, we’ve maintained our relationship with Clean the World to recycle these full-size bottles, diverting them from ending up in landfills.
Used soap from guest rooms is collected by our housekeeping teams and sent to Clean the World, which sanitizes the soap and turns it into new bars for donation. Through our soap recycling partnership, we recycled our soap into more than 63,516 bars, which have in return been donated to those in need, diverting more than 6,947 pounds from landfills in 2023.
