Foods Trucks - Loews Minneapolis
Minneapolis

Food truck season is finally here in Minneapolis! Now that the weather has warmed up, you’ll find a variety of food trucks at farmer’s markets, local breweries and distilleries and outdoor festivals on the weekends. If you’re visiting Minneapolis during the work week, there are blocks dedicated to food trucks in the heart of downtown during the lunch hour. Locals track their whereabouts on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook so they don’t miss out on their favorite food truck delicacies. There are many to choose from; here are four of our favorite Minneapolis food trucks to help you wade through the options.

The Herbivorous Butcher - Loews Minneapolis

The Herbivorous Butcher

New to the fleet of food trucks this year is one by local vegan butcher The Herbivorous Butcher, one of our Flavor partners at Loews Minneapolis Hotel. The food truck is in addition to The Herbivorous Butcher’s existing Northeast Minneapolis location and will be popping up at local breweries and events throughout the summer.

HB Food Truck - Loews Minneapolis

You can expect creative sandwiches (“Bacon” Ranch Mac & Cheese and Mushroom Sliders to name a few) and other vegan fare made with the meat-free meats and cheese-free cheeses that The Herbivorous Butcher is known for.

Fro Yo Soul - Loews Minneapolis

Fro Yo Soul

If the warm weather has you craving a cool treat, Fro Yo Soul self-serve organic frozen yogurt is a fun way to indulge.  Housed in a cheerful blue bus, radically transformed from a former State of Virginia Corrections Bus, Fro Yo Soul rolls around the city serving organic frozen yogurt made from scratch that’s free of antibiotics and artificial sweeteners, yet full of good-for-you probiotics. (There are rumors of a secret recipe.)

Fro Yo Soul 2 - Loews Minneapolis

With six flavors served daily, including two vegan flavors made with organic coconut milk, and a variety of toppings, you can choose your own fro-yo adventure. Whether you’re seeking out gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free, or nut-free options, Fro Yo Soul will check those boxes with something sweet, but not too sinful. Local. Organic. Yum.

Chef Shack - Loews Minneapolis

Chef Shack

Started in 2007 by Lisa Carlson (James Beard award nominee for Best Chef of the Midwest) and her partner Carrie Summers, Chef Shack serves local organic street food minus the sticker shock. Chef Shack appears regularly at farmer’s markets, including the Mill City Farmer’s Market, and downtown among the food truck lineup along 2nd Avenue on weekdays. They serve a creative lunch menu including bison burgers, sweet potato burritos, and a gluten free curry. If you happen to miss their food truck, or if you crave the Indian-Spiced mini-donuts dusted in cinnamon, sugar, ginger and cardamom during the winter (because you will), Chef Shack Ranch is open year-round at 3025 E. Franklin Avenue.

Misfit Coffee - Loews Minneapolis

Misfit Coffee Co

If you’re looking for a quality cup of coffee or espresso while you’re out and about, look no further than Misfit Coffee. Their coffee shop on wheels is regularly parked curbside in the shadow of the Guthrie Theater and by Gold Medal Park so you can take your beverage to a shady or sunny spot nearby.  Coffee beans are ground onsite and you can choose from AeroPress or pour-over or a variety of traditional coffee drinks. The nitro cold brew is a great way to stay cool on a warm day. If you’re feeling adventurous check out the seasonal (currently including the Nana Cold Brew) and “misfit drinks” portion of the menu.

If these four recommendations have you intrigued, the Uptown Food Truck Festival has two upcoming events that will bring together a fleet of over 40 local food trucks for your eating pleasure along with craft brews and live music. Summer can be short in Minnesota so eat outside while you can!
