Art Installations Not To Be Missed In Rosemont

When you can't make it down to the Art Institute of Chicago but want to enjoy some local art creations, where do you go? Rosemont. Yes! Believe it or not, Rosemont is growing its art collection in leaps and bounds, offering a local alternative to some of the country's most famous art collections. Whether you're staying for one night or a few days, Loews Chicago O'Hare Hotel offers up one amenity that I can guarantee no other hotel in the area has — its own art gallery!

One of my favorite activities when I visit Loews Chicago O’Hare is wandering the halls of the event space and common areas to take in all of the super unique art installations that range from crisp and impressive photographs of a moment captured in time to massive, seemingly football stadium-size paintings. One of the best ways to see the collection is via our concierge-led guided tours on the weekends. The tour is a great activity no matter who you're in town with, not to mention an ideal photo opportunity. The best part? It’s complimentary and comes with a glass of champagne!

Some of the art in the hotel may not look alike "art" to most, as it's incorporated into the overall decor of our lobby. For instance, guests love our Rock Wall and Living Moss Wall installations. I can't tell you how many times I've watched a little kid look at these two pieces in total wonder.

Here are some other installations awaiting your arrival at Loews Chicago O'Hare. (And don't worry, we saved a ton for you to discover on your own too.)

Now, if you’re feeling a little cabin fever and want to expand your art exploration, I recommend heading over to the Fashion Outlets of Chicago to enjoy “THE COLLECTION: Where Art Meets Fashion”. Who knew an outlet mall was home to a massive art collection? One that features giant whimsical chandeliers draped in fabric and a giant dripping rainbow wall art and sculpture? As you meander from store to store, take a minute to stop and look around. You never know what creative illustration or sculpture may be gracing the walls.

Some of the art at the Fashion Outlets is part of a permanent collection, including a beautiful rainbow back-lit wall called Rainbow Wash, 2013, by the artist collective FriendsWithYou. This unique installation is formed with a healing color wash mechanism on a vinyl gradient window treatment. This really is a neat piece, and it shields what would be a view of the loud bustling highway right next door.

One of my favorite pieces in the mall is the super colorful installation that hangs over the center of the mall for all to enjoy called Drippy, 2013, by artist Jen Stark. It's definitely not hard to miss and makes for a great photo op.

Here are some other art installations in Rosemont worth a visit:

  • Iconic Rosemont Water Tower Tank: Basically the biggest red rose you will ever see.
  • The latest additions to the Rosemont Mural Initiative, a collection of 43 murals that have been painted by internationally recognized, award-winning artist Rahmaan Statik alongside a group of mentored student artists participating in a Village-sponsored summer work program. The new murals, which depict some of the world’s greatest works of art integrated with Rosemont landmarks, are located within the Williams Street Garage.
  • Some fun Irish-inspired retro murals also live in Parkway Bank Park on the north side near the Five Roses Pub corridor.

So grab your camera and the family and get ready to discover a whole world of Rosemont-based art.
