Annapolis. Beer. Crabs. What a beautiful line up of ABCs and start to summer! After all, it’s simply not summertime on the Eastern Shore without a cold beer and crabs by the bay. If you’re looking for an epic way to kick off the season, I suggest you grab your mallet and arrive in Annapolis hungry —because it’s the most wonderful time of year, Maryland blue crab season!

A is for Annapolis

An unbelievably quaint and historic seaport, Maryland’s capital is where you’ll want to find yourself for an authentic blue crab experience and all things OLD BAY this summer. Nestled in the heart of the Chesapeake Bay, Annapolis’ fresh seafood is hard to beat.

For the ultimate experience this blue crab season, get your hands dirty Crabbing on the Chesapeake with Chesapeake Crabbing Charters. Alongside Captain. Frank Tuma, you’ll trotline the way countless Bay watermen have done for hundreds of years in Annapolis. The best part? You get total bragging rights when you bring home your catch for a Maryland crab feast.

B is for Beer

Beer and the Bay, they go together like two peas in a pod. For a dreamy selection of locally crafted brews, find your way to BAROAK Cookhouse & Taproom, located inside Loews Annapolis Hotel. I highly recommend visiting during Happy Hour, running daily from 4–7 PM, for half-priced draft beers and burgers. For a truly Maryland-inspired meal order the Marylander Burger, topped with jumbo lump crab, and an ice-cold Heavy Seas Loose Cannon draft, crafted in nearby Baltimore.

C is for Crabs

Cracking crabs is always better with a view! For some of the best blue crabs in Annapolis and spectacular waterfront seating, make your way to Jimmy Cantler’s Riverside Inn. Just minutes from Loews Annapolis, Jimmy Cantler’s has been serving delicious seafood to watermen, boaters, and landlubbers alike for over three decades. They even have an educational Crab 101 for Maryland blue crab first-timers, so there is no excuse for being shy about picking up that mallet.

Happy Maryland blue crab season!
