Spring in Philadelphia: The Best Outdoor Activities

Spring has sprung in Philadelphia and our favorite way to celebrate these fresh, warm days is to get outside and visit the best outdoor areas the city has to offer.

Race Street Pier

The Pier is located along the Delaware River Waterfront, where you’ll find the very best views of the Ben Franklin Bridge. Have a picnic. Go for a run. Walk your dog. Watch boats float by. On a nice spring day, you can’t go wrong here. Bonus: they’re offering free yoga on the pier from April 19th to November 12th.

Schuylkill Banks Boardwalk

Instead of looking out at the water, you’re walking (or biking or running) above it. And if you want to sit down and take pictures of the unbelievable skyline views, there are designated overlooks for that. Spring is an amazing season for the boardwalk.

A View Of A City

Benjamin Franklin Parkway

Start at Philadelphia’s City Hall and stroll down the one-mile stretch of the Parkway, ending at the Museum of Art, where you can run up the Rocky Steps. You’ll pass some of the city’s most acclaimed attractions, like the Franklin Institute, the Barnes Foundation, Free Library of Philadelphia and the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter & Paul. Spring is an especially great time to walk the Parkway because it’s lined with trees and flowers.

Franklin Square

A spring afternoon at Franklin Square will look like this: You’ll arrive at the beautiful fountain that dates back to the 1800s. Fuel up with a delicious SquareBurger (and fries…and a shake…). Play a round of mini golf through its Philly-themed course. Take a ride on the carousel. Finally sit, relax, and enjoy the lively atmosphere.

John F. Collins Park

There’s a quiet area tucked away in Center City called John F. Collins Park. It’s the perfect place to unwind and take a break from the hustle and bustle that surrounds the park. Plop down on a bench by the fountain, enjoy the scenic trees and plants, and open up a good book. Ahhh.

Happy Spring!
