Chicago River Dyeing

The most iconic celebration in the city is the dyeing of the Chicago River which takes place the Saturday before St. Patrick’s Day. Watch as the waters turn green with 45 pounds of vegetable dye between Columbus Drive and Mihigan Avenue. Spectators line the Chicago Riverwalk bright and early to catch a glimpse and snap a photo. If crowds aren’t your thing, book a room at Loews Chicago Hotel. With a handful of King Corner rooms you can see the action right from your guest room window! The hotel is also conveniently located with easy access to the Chicago Riverwalk if you’re looking for a place to retreat after a long day of festivities.

If you really want an up close view of the emerald green river, hop on a Chicago river cruise for a one of a kind experience with Chicago’s First Lady, Wendella, Chicago Fireboat Tours or Shoreline Sightseeing.
