What to Pack for NYC by @TheNYBlonde

Packing for a trip to a fashion capital like New York City can be overwhelming. To help make it more manageable, we sat down with one of the most stylish New York-based fashion bloggers, Samantha, @TheNYBlonde, in our Nate Berkus Signature Suite to get insider tips on what and how to pack for your next Big Apple adventure.

Accessories can sometimes make an outfit, but with so many options it can be hard to remember it all. What’s your “can’t leave home without it" item?

I never leave home without my Ray-Ban Aviators. They elevate almost every look and they are always in season. I've been wearing them for almost ten years now and they never go out of style.

New Yorkers are always on the go and every minute counts! What’s your go-to airport-to-appointment look?

A pair of leather leggings,  a white button-down tunic, black booties and a leather jacket. I've never been one to wear sweatpants when traveling, so a good leather legging has been my staple for a while now. They're super comfortable. I usually reach for my mid-heel booties, too – they are great for walking to and from meetings and perfect for exploring. When I’m in a new place, I always love wandering through charming city streets and admiring store windows. Plus, nothing beats a black leather jacket when traveling – it’s the ultimate layering piece.

The age-old packing question – roll or fold?

I haven't checked a bag in almost ten years and it has everything to do with maximizing space. I roll all of my clothing and utilize any empty space in my carry-on. I'll put toiletries inside my socks, which then go inside my shoes. There is no stone left unturned in my carry-on when traveling! I usually unpack my suitcase as soon as I get to my hotel. I love a room with good closet space, and that is often hard to find. I also recommend taking advantage of hotel services – you can easily contact housekeeping to request a steamer, and for longer trips, have an item or two pressed (the service might even be complimentary).
